I've had people who are getting an SACD player ask about "favorite SACDs". These days, there are a number of good SACDs out now. Here are some of my favorites to date:

Multichannel SACDs:
==============
Hourglass - James Taylor
Ship Ahoy - O' Jays
A Celtic Spectacular - Kunzel, Cincinnati Pops, James Galway, Chieftans
Triangulo - Michel Camilo
Shifting Landscapes - Kristjan Jarvi, Symphony Orchestra of Norrlands Opera
Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield
Swing Live - Bucky Pizzarelli
The Life - Ginuwine
Blow by Blow - Jeff Beck
Headhunters - Herbie Hancock

Stereo SACDs:
==========
Now That I've Found You - Alison Krauss
Angel In The Dark - Laura Nyro
Blues In Orbit - Duke Ellington
Music From The Sopranos
Birdland - M. Sasaki & LA All Stars
Blood, Sweat & Tears
Abraxas - Santana

Let me add some more that Brian did not mention (all his are very good):

Multi-Channel

The Stranger - Billy Joel
Frantic - Bryan Ferry
Unforgettable - Dana Winner
Rage Hard - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Goodbye Country - Groove Armada
3 + 3 - The Isley Brothers
Mondo Head - Kodo
Birdland - M. Sasaki & LA All Stars (better in M/C)
Glow - Peter White
In the Flesh - Roger Waters
IV - Toto

Stereo SACDs:
==========
Anything Anytime Anywhere - Bruce Cockburn
Enchantment - Charolette Church
Mobilize - Grant-Lee Phillips
Dare - Human League
Engines of Creation - Joe Satriani
Greatest Hits - Journey
Greatest Hits - Kenny Loggins
Thriller - Michael Jackson
All 3 Patricia Barber Mobile Fidelity discs
Starlight Dinner - Sarah
Saxophone Colossus - Sonny Rollins
Rubycon - Tangerine Dream
Best of - Three Degrees
Greatest Gold - Ventures
Make it Big - Wham

Thanks for adding to the list.

I see you have some of the Japanese SACDs (aka JSACDs) on the list. I have the Birdland SACD (very good) and the Ventures Greatest Gold should be arriving any day now.

I'm anxious to see if it is good enough to add to the Best Stereo SACDs list !

Brian,

I was amazed at how good the Ventures disc is. It is keeper. Post your thoughts when you get it.

Just got it today. Listened to the first few cuts. I was surprised that it is a new performance of their classic hits vs. the original recordings. Still fun, though !

Multichannel:

Mary Chapin Carpenter Time*Sex*Love (never even listened to her before this disc)

Allison Kraus & Union Station New Favorites (ditto)

This stuff (SACD and DVD-A) goes a long way toward spoiling the listening of any other format. Keep producing it.

Nick

If you like the Mary Chapin Carpenter Multichannel SACD, you may want to check out the Indigo Girls Multichannel SACD. Similar sounds and also very good.

I also agree about "New Favorite". Very good sound. The Rounder Stereo SACDs by Alison Krauss, Natalie MacMaster and Laura Nyro are also worth a listen.

Like you say, a lot of fine sounding albums coming out these days on SACD.

Peter White's GLOW is awesome!!! Nice multi-channel mix and great sonics.... oh yeah nice playing too!!!
