I've searched the forums and haven't found an answer to this.
What's a good way, if there even is one, to convert quad LP's to CD?
I have a Panasonic CD-4 turntable/Pioneer SX8000A receiver.
I also have a Marantz amp with SQA decoder.
I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 card in my computer, if that's relevant.
And cables-ya gotta have lots of those.:)

The answers may vary, depending of what specifically you want to do.
- Do you want to transfer un-decoded Matrix LP (SQ QS EV DY) to CD?
- Do you want to transfer decoded LP (any format)?

For the first case, the hardware you have will do: record the matrix LP as a stereo cd and you're done.
For the second case, you need:
- a multichannel setup
- for CD4 lp or for Matrix LP, the appropriate decoder*
- a multichannel soundcard, capable at least of 4-in 4-out simultaneously
Then, when done, you have the option to save the files in a multichannel format playable by a standalone player, such as
- dts cd
- dvd-audio
so you need also the appropriate software.
The destination target is crucial, because some settings for the sampling may vary.

* regarding matrix LP, it is possible to record it in stereo and then decode it with Adobe Audition. Scripts for this task are present on this board. No software cd4 decoding yet.

I feel pretty lost! (newbie for sure)
I'd like to make quad CDs to preserve the vinyl, and they're handier, also.
My TT is one of those oddities with 4 channels out and a preamp built in.
If I use a standalone CD recorder using the "tape out" jacks on the receiver, will this give me a CD capable of being decoded into quad by the 4 ch receiver?
Most of my albums are SQ with only a few CD-4's.
What's a good 4 in/4 out soundcard? What software would be needed?
I have Sound Forge 8 now.
Although I'm not computer ignorant, I'm totally lost when it comes to running scripts.
I was in high school when quad came out, but I'm still confused by it.

Using a standalone CD recorder will work with any matrix LP (sq qs dy ev), it will NOT work with cd4. The CD isn't capable to handle the extended frequency range of a CD4. For CD4 a 4 in/4 out soundcard is mandatory.
