Classical music label Harmonia Mundi has jumped in to the High Resolution Audio downloads market this week. They have posted 15 of their albums as high resolution, Direct Stream Digital (DSD) Stereo and Multichannel downloads on the NativeDSD.Com web site. The label has a catalog of almost 60 albums recorded in DSD to draw from as they develop their new on-line downloads store in conjunction with NativeDSD.Com

There are new Multichannel and Stereo downloads on NativeDSD.Com from several other record labels as well - bringing the total to almost 200, just about all of which include Multichannel download editions.

How many do they think they will sell at that price? Another loser business plan.

Well, Sony has sold out of their HAP-Z1ES High Resolution DSD Music Server and is scrambling to make more.
I'm told we're still a couple of weeks away before more DSD music servers can be purchased again from Sony and their dealers.

Clearly there are some interested music fans out there when it comes to the new High Resolution music files! :)

As I recall, I paid $12 new for the 5.1 SACD of the Nakamatsu/Tyzik/Rochester Gershwin title.

Of course the DSD Download versions are different than the SACD. They come from the DSD Edit Masters from Harmonia Mundi's vaults.
So you're getting the music before things like DST compression, copy protection, etc. are added and an SACD disc is produced.

How much is getting a direct copy of the Edit Master Tape worth? Time and the marketplace will tell.
It's going to be an interesting journey.
