Is there anything that has come along since the Sansui QRX- _001 series that would give the same effect of turning stereo into quad? Do I have to go buy one of these recapped QRX-9001's for $1800 to get analog quad with plenty of power? The computer is awesome for doing digital stuff in discrete mode on my failing QRX 5500, but I have a Sansui 838 turntable and would love to listen to it through 4 channels with decent separation.

To get the original Sansui synth, look for a Sansui QSD-2. They generally go for $200 - 300 on Ebay. Not cheap, but cheaper than a restored 9001, QSD-1 or QSD-1000. I am not aware of a modern piece of equipment that does the same thing as the original Sanui synth. (That's why the Sansui units have stayed so popular with Quadies.)
