Okay. I know Electrophonic/Morse is regarded as low-fi and even the low end of compact systems. I saw this big guy on craigslist and I had to adopt it.
It was dirty, but it powered on and the 8-track player seemed to work. All the lights worked. I didn't really do much testing as it was at a second hand store, and it was only $25.00.
I cleaned it up cosmetically so that it looks much more pretty and minty looking now. Then I tested it and discovered both left channels were out. With some fiddling about, I discovered that the mode selecting knob is what the issue was (I could fiddle with it till I got left channels). So I cracked it open, used pot cleaner on the mode selecting pot, cleaned the 8-track player head and capstan, all the pots and switches, the connection between the 8-track player and the main board and all the headphone and RCA jacks. Now it all works seamlessly. Still needs a new belt on the 8-track as this one is old, loose and slipping. I will do that tomorrow and then the unit will be back to 100%.
Some nice features are that it has the balance joystick with positional display guage with the little light. It actually has an SQ decoder, probably no-logic. But thats a lot for most compacts. It has a radio tuning signal meter, which I thought was odd for a compact. It has a quad 8-track player and connection for quad headphones. Quite a compact!
Here are the pictures from the craigslist ad
It looks a lot better now, and will try to take some nicer pics of it tomorrow. Here is another frumpy picture of another one I found online:
