Gave the new quad remaster of Six Wives a first spin-through today...it sounds pretty good-- certainly 'clean'' for a vinyl source -- but my *memory* (which should not be trusted absolutely) is that the OD version was less surround-y but sounded better...dare I say 'warmer'?? I'll have to do an actual comparison to verify. The surrounds in the new one DO sound prominent, though the effect in my setup is often to place things to the side between Front and Rear.
The slow periodic pitch variations ('wow') in this recording -- all versions -- are kind of maddening once you start hearing them ....hard to know if the vinyl sourcing of this new version has contributed anything to that, without careful comparison.
Haven't listened yet to the new 2ch remaster, or the alternate mix of Catherine.
