Hi everyone

Santa got me a new BD for Christmas that I thought you might be interested in. It’s one of the 2L label’s latest called Magnificat.

Amazon link here: http://www.amazon.com/Arnesen-Magnificat-Audio-Hybrid-SACD/dp/B00OA9NML6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421098411&sr=8-1&keywords=magnificat+blu+ray

Music video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym4sH9VaHbU This music video appears on the BD too (with the audio in sync).

In the Super Jewel Box, there is a swivel tray that holds both the BD and a hybrid SACD. Gotta love that decent packaging.

The first few tracks feature the choir. Following them is a piece called Musica Celeste (which, the first time you listen to it with the lights off at night, gets a little unnerving in parts) and then two new compositions from Ola Gjeilo (whose SACD Stone Rose is definitely worth the purchase if you’re into that sort of thing).

The positioning of the musicians/singers relative to the 5.1 microphone placement varies between the three types of recordings and is detailed in the booklet. One of them is a circular arrangement that surrounds the five microphones which is good to hear (I don’t think I’ve heard any recordings that use this positioning before).

Fidelity is excellent.

192kHz/24bit LCPM Stereo (Haven’t listened to this yet and probably won’t)
192kHz/24bit DTS-MA 5.1 (Sounds superb)
96kHz/24bit 9.1 Auro-3D (I haven’t got a player/receiver/enough speakers to hear what this sounds like)

Minor gripe: Occasionally, you can hear the musicians taking a deep breath in. Fussy, I know but it’s not a major on this particular recording. It’s nowhere near as noticeable as whoever is panting like a dog in the first seven tracks of this BD http://www.2l.no/pages/album/068.html (if you’re interested, the subsequent tracks on this BD are superb though and include this little gem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5x4CU_3Jz0)
