This brand new release is great. 33 tracks, as a very young Johnny Winter, his voice smooth as silk, not really used to hearing his voice that smooth, and as the tracks go one his voice gets a little closer to where he ended.
Great tunes, super good stereo sonics, you won't be disappointed.

and a sad note: the 18 year old American harp player Jeff Carp, who played on this album and Muddy Water's "Fathers & Sons" died in a crazy situation shortly after the sessions. So his career and life were cut short. RIP.

Oliver Nelson THE BLUES AND THE ABSTRACT TRUTH [Impulse/Analogue Productions Stereo SACD remaster] SOME call it JAZZ and SOME call it BLUES. I call it BOTH! An absolutely essential album, IMO!

A shame they stepped all over Buddy's recording like that.
I've seen him play a number of times around Chicago over the decades including
his own Legends club. That sure as heck isn't the way it sounds live.

I wish I had also had the opportunity to see him live. I always thought it sort of strange that he had to go to the UK to make what I think is his best recording, DJ Play My Blues, which is a superb album IMO under the JSP label. Whatever, it worked.
For those unaware of the JSP label, they turned out some fine Blues recordings, I think I have all their surround SACD's.

Spending the first 60 years of my life living inner Chicago did come with one or
two benefits. I was able to view all the Chi Blues legends in the various blues clubs around
the city on a regular basis for decades. Just be sure to watch your back. LOL

He is such a great artist, just looked him up and he's 87 now. Unfortunately I've never been able to see him perform either (got loads of his albums & the JSP SACD), he has been a big influence on a lot of guitarists, including E.C.
