I guess this is my next thread in a series of "weird quad observations" after the drum placement thread.

For whatever reason, there are some great Columbia quad titles out there forever trapped in SQ with no discrete tape released alongside them.

I'm noticing that a lot of these are on subsidiary labels (Family Productions, PIR, etc)- perhaps that has something to do with it?

Here's my list so far:
Loggins & Messina- Native Sons
Billy Joel- Turnstiles
Bob Dylan- Desire
Johnnie Taylor- Eargasm (Thanks DV for getting us the discrete master!)
Janis Ian- Between The Lines
Janis Ian- Aftertones
O’Jays- Survival
O’Jays- Family Reunion
Isley Brothers- Harvest For The World
Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes- Wake Up Everybody
MFSB- Philadelphia Freedom
Santana- Amigos

Thanks! List updated.

Dave Mason- Split Coconut
B.T. Express- Energy To Burn
Phoebe Snow- Second Childhood

I think it's safe to assume we probably didn't get a Turnstiles Q8 due to BJ's contract troubles with Family Productions- The Piano Man and Streetlife Serenade Q8s were duplicated by Ampex, not Columbia

A few more for the list:

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
Miles Davis - Live Evil
Preservation Hall Jazz Band - Vol 1
Ray Conniff - I Write the Songs
Ray Conniff - Send in the Clowns
Return to Forever - Musicmagic
Michael Murphy - Swans Against the Sun [Epic]

This one definitely existed cause we had it at home.. I remember only too well cause our house was burgled and a few weeks later the Police actually recovered it BUT the burglar had written "Roberto" on it...as if that had made it his!

Mark Anderson's Quad Discography shows it as SQ-only.

I don't have it but pretty sure there's a Swans Against The Sun Q8.

I'm not so sure...Mark Anderson's discography only lists the SQ and Discogs has no entry for a Q8.

i thought that too but then a member here told me they had seen a copy of it on Q8 and I talked them out of it because i found the album boring and the mix weird in SQ form! whoops.. :ROFLMAO:

Added Don Ellis's Tears Of Joy:

Also, does anyone have the Mahavisnhu Orchestra Between Nothingness & Eternity Q8? I've seen tons of SQs go on eBay and Discogs, but never a Q8. I can't even find a pic of the cart online.

yes, i've seen the Mahavishnu Live Q8 a few years ago - once.
i had no idea at the time how scarce it is or i'd have taken screengrabs.

edit: check out the Discogs listing and you'll see one of the members there who owns it on Q8 is "fishbulb". afaik they are not a member here but i have heard on the grapevine they have the proverbial "everything" in Quad and know what they are talking about.
