Re: Fagen, Donald - MORPH THE CAT [DVD-A] 2006
I listened to this disc three times last week, and it just gets better with each visit. 10.

Re: Fagen, Donald - MORPH THE CAT [DVD-A] 2006
I bought the "nightfly" trilogy box(no booklets in ANY of the CDs)
Is there any difference between this and the original release concerning the data???
Re: Fagen, Donald - MORPH THE CAT [DVD-A] 2006
I'll say it again. All of the Dan and Fagen DVD-audio discs are 10's, and must haves.

Re: Donald Fagen - Morph The Cat DVD-A
I'll check that out. I'm unfamiliar with "DVD-Audio Explorer"(?), but when I put the disc in to play and then hit the AUDIO button it states the details. Up till last night I didn't realize I had any discs with the 192/24 stereo tracks (because the cover didn't list the details), but checking Hotel California and Winelight I see I do). The Grover Washington sounds very nice, particularly in a set of good studio monitor cans.
I'd like to see this forum have a place for us to input all of these types of details, to make for a better informed purchase or to just better know what we already have. I'd certainly volunteer to input the information from what I own.

Where's the DVD audio version of Asia??? Been waiting long time! JU* start a petition?

Re: Fagen, Donald - MORPH THE CAT [DVD-A] 2006
All of DF DVD-A are great and so is this one. When is the next one coming?

Re: Fagen, Donald - MORPH THE CAT [DVD-A] 2006
Great album in all respects. I'm such a fan of the older Steely Dan albums that I almost didn't want to like it -- Becker and Fagen never stray far from the trademark sound, and after all these years the songs must surely sound like the same old tired, reworked stuff, right?
On the contrary, it sounds great. Maybe this sound just can't wear itself out on me. I especially like What I Do, Brite Nightgown, and Security Joan, but all the songs on Morph are worthy. I can't make myself say that it's as good as Nightfly, but if I propose a 9.5 rating I can still round up, right?

I was lucky enough to find a copy just sitting on the shelf today...
I've played the dts 'Trilogy' disc a few times, but now we're getting HiRes hardcore.
I'll report back after a focused listen tonight.

Music is the universal language.
Someday we'll all sing together.

Re: Fagen, Donald - MORPH THE CAT [DVD-A] 2006
Wow. The sound on this is absolutely wonderful! A solid 9 from me. This will be spun even more than Kamakiriad and Nightfly.

Re: Fagen, Donald - MORPH THE CAT [DVD-A] 2006
(Review of the DTS 96/24 MVI version)
To me, DF/SD groove ended in Kamakiriad, nothing since has moved me as much as that.
1st time I listened to it I was..BOOOORED! 2nd and 3rd time were no improvement. Too much repetition with little substance.
Now , the mix...AHHHHHHHHH.
Another industry standard .
This is how they should be done, olé!
So, a 4 for the music and a 10 for the mix gives it a 6.5 in my book, so a strong...6!!!
Besides, Donnie baby, that SOUR face!!! You're NOT a happy camper are you?

Re: Fagen, Donald - MORPH THE CAT [DVD-A] 2006
I gave this a 9. It DOES grow on you, like many classic albums. Saw DF at Chicago Theater on this tour and SD w/Michael McDonald later that year. I prefer Nightfly but this one is a winner! Great fidelity, Scheiner mix and some pretty juicy tunes. SD fans have come to expect no less. I have the DVD-A/CD and MVI Nightfly Trilogy. Come to think of it, I've never played the CD. I rarely play the CD side/layer/extra disc of any SACD or DVD-A.
On first listen to Moby Grape's 1st, I questioned why I bought it. Out of over 17,000 albums, it's my all-time fave. Give this DVD-A and/or MVI more time, it will Morph into one of your faves.

Re: Fagen, Donald - MORPH THE CAT [DVD-A] 2006
Thanks Linda...I WILL listen to this a few more times, if only because of the incredible mix... maybe it's because when I listened to Kamakiriad it blew me away from the 1st time and it's more varied musically thatn his...maybe has more passion...this one I did find too repetitive and ..uninspired..oh well...
Love the Bright Nightgown reference!
Cheers from another Kitty(well, I'm a Leo...and that's how my baby calls me...kitty)
