With the passing of Brother Dickie Betts, dug out the t-shirt collection & memorabilia of the several times I was blessed to see him with ABB from 1972-97.
July 17, 1992 ~ Costa Mesa CA, Pacific Amphitheatre
My first show since 76, with Marc Quinoñones newly added on percussion in the back line between Jaimoe & Butch.
Warren on second guitar & Woody on bass. (I was knocked out when he brought out his 12-string bass for Hoochie Coochie man, which had been Berry's big number.
The whole band was on fire, Dickie was as good as I ever saw him.
The mid-show acoustic set was fire.
After the show, asked a roadie to please hand me Dickie's set list duct-taped to his monitor.
June 24, 1993 ~ Milwaukee Summerfest, Miller High Life Oasis Stage
Jaimoe was hanging out by the stage before the show, eating a banana.
July 14, 1995 ~ Lincoln NE, Pioneers Park Pinewood Bowl
August 9, 1997 ~ Omaha, NE Levi Carter Park
By the time of this show, Warren Haynes & Allen Woody had left the band to escape the drama & concentrate on their Gov't Mule side project.
This was the short-lived lineup with Jack Pearson on second guitar, Oteil's first tour on bass.
By the next time I saw them, August 30, 2000, Derek had joined, with Jimmy Herring on second guitar. Allen Woody had died on four days previous.
Warren soon re-joined & the membership was stable until we lost Butch & Greg.
Last show I saw was August 31, 2012 when they played a shortened set at blues fest.
It was reported one of the band said it was their best performance in three years.
