I checked at the BB today and they said they have 3 copies of the SACD to put out tomorrow (Tuesday). Their price will be $14.99 according to the computer.

Wow! Something "good" is coming out! Guess I'll have to put off buying that new "American Music of the Plains, played on wash basins and broom handles" SACD that was coming out soon!

Actually I think that's going to be coming out on one of those CD-4 encoded CDs mentioned in one of the other sections here. :)

I knew the furor created by the "O Brother, Where Art Thou" soundtrack was going to get out of hand eventually...

There are some good Bluegrass SACDs out there. Check the albums by Alison Krauss on Rounder and the ones on Sugar Hill by Jerry Douglas and Nickle Creek.

OK, so it's not exactly bluegrass, but I can also highly recommend Mark O'Connor's Hot Swing Trio's 'In Full Swing'. (Now that's using apostrophes!) It's that wonderful intersection of jazz and bluegrass...

And don't forget the best one of all , "Blue Country Heart" by Yorma Kaukonen

That's a good one. Falls into the category of overlooked Surround SACDs.

BTW, I'm not putting down bluegrass, just going for the cheap joke. :D I know there's a lot of good Americana out there. We've got a couple of the Alison Krauss at home, and my uncle is really trying to get me turned onto Doc Watson. I'm always looking for good music of any era...

That sounds pretty cool, actually. Are the surrounds used mainly for ambience or is it a more "immersive" mix?

You mean Jorma Kaukonen. That's an original DSD recording in Surround. I have it but I'm not sure I'd rate it as the best one.

It's real...

Good price, mine was $14.99 at BB - they had two copies, and they were hidden in the back of the racks!

No I don't think so. It sounds pretty nice to my ears. Even the stereo mix on the cd layer sounds warm and full. Hiss is appearant so I would think NR wasn't used. Mountain Jam is a hoot on this disc. Really fun to listen to. I am glad they surrounded us with the band instead of band in front and crowd in back.

It DOES exist! I went to the record store specifically to pick up this title. They didn't have it! (BB).

I am happy now, to have faith in surround-um.

Long live good new releases!! ;)

Does the release remix Berry Oaklys bass into Little Martha ? and Gregg Allmans Hammond into Blue Sky ? Like the Box set from a few years back or is the mix purley based on the original album ?
