Marc: do you have both the sleeve and actual disc for the Ray Charles Singers disc? I need the label and catalog numbers for this release. As I noted in a separate post, EP's in that series have one ID for the disc (I'm assuming the label says Command - correct me if I'm wrong) and a different ID on the sleeve that corresponds to the manufacturer, LLP. Either would be fine, both would be fantastic. A picture post would also be great.

Is this what you want

I found a couple seven inch quad 45s I have that I didn't see listed here.

1. Steve & Donna - Dream Your Dreams /Glad I'm Here with You Roanoke Records There are two catalog numbers for this (one for each side). Side One: VC4424-A (Copyright 1974); Side Two: VC 4424-B (Copyright 1976). The record doesn't mention which system was used to encode it.

2. Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds Daisy Mae ("Stereo Quad")/Daisy Mae (Mono). ABC Dunhill. Promo copy. Both sides have the following number: D-4296. Each side has an additional unique number. Stereo Quad side: 45-01537S; Mono Side: 45-01537. There is no reference to the quad system, but I would assume it to be QS.

Can you post pictures of the labels? They both sound intriguing.

My question is, why QS and SQ encoded 7" records? The obvious reason would be for use in quadraphonic jukeboxes, but from the research I've done on the Seeburg series of quad jukeboxes, was there really a need for matrix encoded records? The Seeburg decoder was by no means a SQ or QS decoder. My understanding is that it's a very simple, relatively ineffective decoder that creates more of the "Haffler" effect.
So, even though no jukeboxes were equipped with true SQ or QS decoders, did the record industry feel there was reason to justify the production of these records? Also, some of the 7" records were produced at 33 1/3 speed. None of the Seeburg Quad jukeboxes played back at 33 1/3. So, was the purpose of the 7" quad disc for playback in jukeboxes not equipped with the technology to decode or (in some cases) even play them properly? Or, were 7" quad records released for the same reason regular 45's were released? The record companies just figured that some people would rather not pay the higher price for the whole album and would purchase the "hit single" instead.
I just can't find any evidence that points to them being produced for use in jukeboxes.

I repaired some of those jukeboxes. Some had the Haffler circuit (or a variant). Those will decode QS, EV, and Dolby Surround.

Others had the EV integrated circuit in them. Again, those will decode QS, EV, and Dolby Surround.

I never saw one with CD-4

And the Haffler effect is not just fake quad. It is a real regular matrix decoder. The only difference is that the decoding takes place after the amplifier. I have built many of these with adjustable front and back decoding parameters. One of them has giant SQ and QS phase shifters in it (the problem is that it is larger than a one-foot cube). Two have separation enhancement logic. I built them just to show it could be done.

Another reason the 45 is in quad is that the manufacturer made only one mix. Often the quad in the 45 is not labeled, but is the same as on the album.

I have three copies of Sly and the Family Stone's "Thank You falettinme be mice elf again." One is a 45. One is marked as a stereo record. One is the SQ album that cost a dollar more. All three are the same recording.

These are awesome recordings / pressings. I found 10 of them, sealed, in Mexico City of all places! Would love to find more. I see them on Ebay. Silly asking prices.
