Ranking Roger, the lead singer and founder of the The Beat or English Beat, has passed away age 56.
I have always liked The Beat and who can forget 'Mirror in the Bathroom' amongst their other hits. The band's up tempo, driving rhythm, coupled with his distinctive voice, produced one of the most engaging, musical sounds of the late 70's and early 80's..imo.
Another star taken far too early.
Thank you Roger and may you continue to shine brightly, wherever you are.

One of my all time favorites from The English Beat

In a similar manner to The Spinners being known as The Detroit Spinners over here, we knew the band as The Beat. They were initially part of the Two Tone scene (which was around the time I was becoming more aware of pop music).

Debut single (on Two Tone):

Another splendid cover version towards the end of their initial run:

Two members of the band went on to form Fine Young Cannibals.
