The new Genius Loves Company Surround Sound SACD by Ray Charles and a host of guest artists turns out to have a very good 5.1 Surround Sound mix on several of the cuts on the disc.

Check out in particular tracks 1 (Norah Jones), 5 (Natalie Cole), 7 (Willie Nelson) and 10 (Gladys Knight) in SACD Surround. Very well done.

Is this performance live?

It's hard to tell sometimes.
Labels are pressing anything and everything live, so much so that many releases aren't even labelled as such. I don't think this is an accident.

No, all studio, AFAIK
It seems like a lovely idea, but Ray's voice is really weak. 10 years too late, I'm afraid!

The Van Morrison/Ray Charles duet is a live performance from an awards show. The other duets are live but it's not clear whether the instrumentation is live as well or recorded seperately.

I thought he meant live in concert.....did he mean live as in 2 people in a studio? Unlike Sinatra's duets?

The Van Morrison track is live in that sense. But the others are in studio duets.
