It was Marillion-The Uninvited Guest CDS from Hall's Music in Pasture Road, Goole circa 1989. I thought it was magic at the time, CD's that is, not so much Marillion though it's a decent tune:)

Talking Heads Little Creatures was among the 1st the Christmas of 85 along with a Symphonic brand cd player.

Yes, I remember my first CD purchases. They were Marvin Gaye's What's Going On/Let's Get It On, Jimi Hendrix' Kiss The Sky and Hard-To-Find Motown Classics Vols. 1 & 2 (various artists) all bought in Sept. 1986. And my most recent CD purchase is The Supremes' Sing Holland-Dozier-Holland (Deluxe Edition).

Uh, Damn...you even know the month you purchased them? :SG

Alex Chilton - Stuff, on New Rose. A couple EPs and some singles. I had most on records but the novelty of having on one disc was cool. I didn't have a player yet but it was something to bring to parties. I did notice right away there was less bass than the records had.

July '87 after buying and returning two badly manufactured, scratchy, skippy, Pat Metheny Still Life (Talking) LP's, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Pioneer 6-CD changer. First CD was the CD version of the above. Might as well add that my second and third CD purchases were Pat Metheny Bright Size Life and Wynton Marsalis Hot House Flowers. Still have all three. BTW, this a great thread, really enjoying reading the posts!

I have absolutely no idea at all, but I would guess probably either Yes - Fragile, Rush - Moving Pictures, Led Zeppelin - IV, or maybe Frank Zappa - Apostrophe (') / Overnight Sensation. I do remember that I bought my first CD player used from a friend during my senior year of high school in '88 for $100.

Pink Floyd - A Collection Of Great Dance Songs, the old CBS pressing. I got this one about 5 months before buying a CD player. That kind of forced me to buy the player. Still have the CD. Passed on to my older boys (8 & 5) to listen on their player since they like Pink Floyd. Now we have kind of a same start with CDs.
I always loved the format, I still do. It was like science fiction when they came out. I only recall the same kind of feeling when the iPhone arrived.
Living science fiction indeed.
