Ahhhhh... what could have been.

A 25th anniversary release with cd/dvd.... and no 5.1 remix

http://www.reuters.com/article/pres...RN20071130?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0

We DO get the Thriller and Beat It videos along with the Motown footage of Billie Jean. Groundbreaking.

Oh yeah, then there are the remixes by will.i.am and Akon.

Definte signs that Sony has it's head up it's ass... still!!! I'll pass!!!

After hearing the McCartney stuff of that era in 5.1, I can only imagine how good the Thriller LP would have been in 5.1.

Obviously everyone responsible for possibly releasing a surround mix of this, has had their brains eaten out.

According to a Fox News story in 2001, Jackson was working to remix all of his album for release on 5.1 SACD Surround but couldn't decide on the mixes. After spending Millions of dollars on the remixes and 50 different Surround Sound mixes on some songs (!), Jackson never OK'd them for release. The quote on Jackson in the story was "the guy just leaks money".

See the story at http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,30233,00.html for more details.

I suspect that Sony Music didn't want to go to that party again. So they apparently stayed with a CD + DVD format instead for the Thriller reissue.

Not real good with decisions, is he?

What a waste that some really good 5.1 surround mixes are languishing in storage somewhere because MJ was likely obsessing about monkey chow or how many coloring books were needed for the next sleepover....@:

But weren't there 5.1 remixes on some MJ DVDs, like History:Greatest Hits? How were they?
