..is different from what you hear when mixing down- I remember when they taught me to monitor from the playback head of the quarter inch , not from the mix out bus..very true.
I caught myself going back to this VERY recently.
I was listening to the playback of an LP recording made at 96/24 and caught myself thinking:
"Hey! That's not what I heard when I was recording it!!!"
Of course I COULD monitor "from the playback head"(software monitoring), but it's not the same since you get the latency delay....
It was a very different experience.
High definition audio IS a beautiful thing...
