Is it possible that this is the type of decoder used to decode the Dark Side of the Moon and Atom Heart Mother SQ masters for the US q8 releases? Seems a strong possibility.
 
This was the 'main' decoder used by studios for quad mixes. The 2400 did get an 'upgrade' of the vari-blend logic, replacing the front/back logic, but the unit on ebay doesn't look to be modified. It wasn't until the Tate DES based decoders came out that even CBS (people like Dan Gravereaux) heard how the SQ mixes really sounded. The CBS Paramatrix prototypes didn't cut it because they only decoded the 6 principle directions - no side decoding or 'in-between' speakers except for Center Front and Center Back.
