SUPER SESSION and CHILD IS FATHER TO THE MAN 5.1

Over on the forum of the Hoff Al Kooper has written:

FYI about ten years ago I did 5.1 mixes of SUPER SESSION and CHILD IS FATHER TO THE MAN and mastered them in Portland, Maine with the "other" master of mastering (Bob Ludwig) as opposed to whose house we're in now.
They are lying in the vaults at SONY gathering SACD dust. I think they are fantastic. Tell AF or somebody to put them out. They are all done and ready to go

I'm still waiting to see if Analogue Productions includes that one 5.1 mix for the SRV box. Maybe Sony would put this stuff out on Blu-ray Audio now. That's way more likely than AF putting out a surround SACD of anything.

Ten years ago, I met Al Kooper. He indicated that both were mixed. I asked when he expected a release. He replied, " I don't know, it's up to Columbia." :howl

It's been in the Wiki page as well for yonks now that these were done, mixed & not ever released.
I honestly do not understand the way the labels act these days - I thought they existed to sell records.....apparently not, what with the "limited edition" this, "OOP" that & "unreleased" XYZ.

Audio Fidelity won't put them out simply cause they don't do 5.1 surround, however Acoustic Sounds might be a good resource to get these released. Otherwise, maybe we should wait and see how Sony does with Blu-Ray Audio releases and see if they can put out these releases on Blu-Ray.

Funny that they released the SQ encoded Quad CD of Super Session (in Japan) a few years ago, and made sure it was very clear that it was the SQ version, yet the moron Sony Suits here in the US continue to sit on their download-paranoid butts.

Yea, that Japanese release was worth grabbing. It seems to have disappeared now. The SQ obi is prominent. When I looked for it in a Japanese Tower Records store they didn't know what it meant....

One of the reissue labels is looking into it as we speak. Fingers crossed.
