Guys,

What's the preferred way (or software) to convert a .dts file into 6 individual wav files. I remember there was some convoluted way 4-5 years ago using SurCodeDTS and reverse encoding, but there has to be a fairly easy way to do this now. Even if I have to buy a program.

Anyone have any good recommendations?

I believe Foobar2000 will convert a .dts file and save each .wav individually. Foobar2000 is free too. You'll need the dts plugin.

Thanks George. Since I got my Blu-Ray burner, I'm "reintroducing" myself to all of the conversion stuff I've had lying around on my PC for years.

I suppose I really need to check out this "Foobar" I keep hearing about. It sounds like an impressive program.

Let us know how it goes, Jon! I'm going to finally d/l Foobar myself.

I'm still looking for a clear and precise tutorial on converting SACD to DTS. Time is not a concern, but cost is. If anyone has a .doc file or something on this, I would appreciate a PM and I'll provide my e-mail address.

Better yet, if there are any members in or near San Francisco, I would be eternally grateful for a walk-through at theirs or my place.

I live in the East Bay, but here is some info that should help:

How do I convert a 5.1 SACD to dts?

Review DVD-Audio Solo $35.00 (Now $45) DVDA Authoring

The main thing is you need to be able input the 6 channels into .wavs and encode them into DTS or DVD-Audio. SurCode CD-DTS is $99 or cheaper at some music stores. DTS can also be put onto DVD. There are also inexpensive DVD-Audio programs. http://www.minnetonkaaudio.com/store/ and DVD-Audio Solo: http://cirlinca.com/products.htm

You might want to record at least at 24 bit / 96 kHz and down convert to 16 bit / 44.1 kHz for DTS-CD, if that's what you want, then you can do DVD-Audio at the same time or later. Stereo SACD sound at 24 bit / 192 kHz can also be put on a DVD as either a DVD-Audio or DVD-V disc.

I use the VLC Media Player to do convert the DTS file to a 6-channel .wav file. Then I open the .wav file in Adobe Audition to split out the 6 mono .wavs

I use the Tranzcode program. If you want to try it out let me know and I will send it to you. It was a free program.

I use EAC3to.exe - actually I use EAC3toGUI.exe cuz I find working with Dos a real PITA..

the GUI one is very simple - add the source file into the source box and change the extension of the destination file to .wavs - press 'convert' and you have the 6 waves..

this one is also free..

Thanks to all for your responses. I found the tranzcode.exe file on my PC that I had used a few years ago. It worked fine on the .dts files I demuxed from an HD-DVD. So I'm rockin'.

THANKS AGAIN

You guys are great! (y)

I've used a few different tools for this, but one thing I found was that I never seem to be able to use any of these tools with commercially released dts CDs. Has anyone else run into that, and found a solution?
