That lot is what I had to do to get i2c communication working between the CPU, DSP, DAC/ADC and the LED controller. The original prototype board didn't have provision for 5v to 3v3 bi-directional communication. Also level matching for the control lines.

Dave, that shot shows that no matter how well you read the spec sheets and apply decades of experience, you never really understand a circuit until you build it.

One of my descriptions of my own engineering skills was “The only thing I ever designed and built that worked right the first time was an extension cord.” Not exactly true, but not too far from reality.

Personally, I never make any mistakes and all my designs work 100% perfect first time. And I never forget to cut any track on veroboard prototypes. It's hard to find good help.

Fun stuff.

I don't believe I've ever seen a surface mount IC, surface mounted on a hole-through IC. The icing on the cake is the hole-through is also socketed.
