Sad to see these two obituaries--one of them Covid-19 related--in today's Times.
  • Eric Weissberg, one of the "Duelling Banjos" and a member of The Tarriers--and a session player on a gazillion albums, in all genres, from the 70s and 80s. That includes lots of quad and surround albums--everything (going off of albums mentioned in the obituary) from Blood on the Tracks to Piano Man to Little Creatures.
  • Aurlus Mabélé, lead vocalist and founding member (with guitar ace Diblo Dibala) of the Paris-based Congolese supergroup Loketo. I've long thought the layered vocals and interlocking guitars of soukous would be brilliant in surround...
However improbably, there are barely three degrees of separation between the two men, with David Byrne as the point of connection. In addition to Little Creatures, Weissburg also played on Byrne's Rei Momo, and Byrne, a soukous fan, has shared a stage with Diblo, whose influence you can hear in Yves N'Djock's playing on Naked's "Nothing But Flowers."
