Warner Vision: DVD-Audio zukünftig ab 18 EURO

Mit einer Preisoffensive versucht Warner Vision, dem bislang nur in audiophilen Kreisen bekannten DVD-Audio-Format eine neue Chance zu geben: Zukünftig sollen DVD-Audio-Titel nur noch wenig mehr als eine CD kosten und zu Preisen zwischen 17.99 € und 19.99 € erhältlich sein. Am 26. August startet Warner Vision einen Relaunch mit 59 DVD-Audio-Titeln, worunter sich neben bereits erhältlichen Titeln auch 15 Neuveröffentlichungen befinden sollen. Bis Ende des Jahres sollen noch 20 weitere DVD-Audio-Titel in Deutschland veröffentlicht werden. Noch stärker als bislang soll vor allem das Potential der DVD-Player genutzt werden. Denn auch wenn diese nicht speziell mit Technik für DVD-Audio ausgestattet sind, so können diese doch immerhin Dolby Digital 5.1 wiedergeben. Entsprechend wird auf allen DVD-Audios mindestens ein Dolby Digital 2.0-Track und vielfach auch ein Dolby Digital 5.1-Track vorhanden sein, so dass eine DVD-Audio von Warner Vision auf jedem DVD-Player abspielbar sein wird. Um die Bedienung zu vereinfachen, hat Warner Vision auch eine neue, einheitliche Menüstruktur entwickelt, die es ermöglichen soll, auch ohne eingeschalteten Fernseher eine DVD-Audio zu bedienen.

The discs will offer next to the high res mlp tracks also DD2.0 and DD5.1 tracks to support playback on DVD Video players without DVD Audio playback capability.

Also an uniform menu structure is developed which allows easy disc navigation without a switched on tv monitor.

The German magazine 'Stereo' ed. 8/2002 Had a news articale about the coming Warner releases.

The most remarkable is the following:
They write that Warner is going to release double sided disc.
One side with stereo mixes, 24b 192ks for DVD Audio players and a 24b 96ks stereo track playable in DVD Video players.
The other side of the disc contains the multi channel mix.

Regarding the numbers.
By the end of this year they want to have approximate 90 titles on the european market. Among the new releases in europe there are titles already released in the US. They rest will be the new releases mentioned in Mike's lists. (in all 92 'known' titles)

Warner has already released a few double-sided discs, including:

Billy Cobham - "Spectrum"
Doobie Brothers - "The Captain and Me"
Hootie and the Blowfish - "Cracked Rear View"

I think this is the perfect solution for many of the problems surrounding DVD-A. If the double-sided disc (stereo/multi) had been standardized from the get-go, many of the complaints surroundind DVD-A would never have materialized. Oh well, better late than never!
