On some of the tapes I have I can hear the other program during the breaks between songs. Is there a way to adjust this. It only happens on a couple of tapes while others play perfectly. Perhaps a matchbook??

Thanks

This is a common problem. Some machines have a small access hole where you can adjust the heads up and down, depending on the tape.

I am not sure why this does vary from tape to tape. Maybe dr8track can chime in.

Yep it happened to me too.
I have a Clarion car 8-track player, sometimes there's a bleed.
I adjusted the head from both controls. Sound is great with highs clean very close to a good vinyl, but still some bleed.
Anyway, another strange thing is that prog 1 and 2 sound balanced while prog 3 and 4 sound cleaner and with low freqencies almost only on the right channel.
I hope it doesn't depend from the head....

dr8track where are you??

prerecorded 8 track tapes are at the mercy of the machines used in duplication.
The original tape to dub from , could be on a bad playback machine, or the machine that recorded the copies could be out, or they could both be out.

Hence you could get a tape with bleedthrough and good highs.
