Dolby says...more consistent immersive sound no matter where you're sitting in the room.
Although soundbars are mentioned as sound sources in part of a surround sound/immersive audio system, I don't see much of a downside to using soundbars - if it helps get the general public accustomed to listening to audio in surround sound most of the time, I think it's all good.
