DVD-R to Flash Drive

Not sure this is the place to put this but, I have a friend that tried his hand at mixing his own music in 5.1. He sent me a couple of discs and I scanned through them years back at a friends that had a DVD-A player ! I know they work! Fast forward to now I have a Sony player that plays Blu-Ray,DVD-A and SACD. It won’t play the DVD-R! It doesn’t recognize the disc. I decided to rip the DVD-R and put its content on a flash drive. I did that and put it in the usb in my receiver and it says the flash drive is empty. Anyone have any idea what I might could do? Also I did double check the Flash drive on my computer and it is there.

No I did not. Trying to figure out how to do this as I type!
