There's a few ways to check this one out:

1. the Capitol `Intro to Stereo' or `Study in Stereo' original 1956 stereo sampler LP's
2. their 2-track reel-to-reel incarnations

3. the original 1957 stereo LP with the Capitol logo on the side NOT on the top or the 1957 2-track stereo reel of Fred Waring & The Pennsylvanians in Hi-Fi

Listen to a track by Feed Waring called Way Back Home. I've heard the original 3-track work-parts and something is VERY wrong with the microphone phase between the different three tracks. You can't place one track in opposite phase to the others without suffering some other issue.

However, in the stereo pressings of that album from the 60's, rainbow label w the logo on the top, or the 4-track 7-1/2 IPS reel to reel incarnation has eliminated or minimized many of the original phase errors present in the original recording, leaving behind a nice pleasing stereo, but not much to activate the surrounds in a surround system.

A neat listen in any case.
