Sound Quality 85%? ........... It's one of the best sounding surround discs EVER ........
I don't know it for sure, but it sounds right? Reasonably sure Ormandy knew Prokofiev in the 1930s, and certainly would have been aware of his goals.i haven't picked up that disc yet but from the last comment made there it seems the composer wanted those trumpets to distort, rather than it being a limitation of the recording/source as suggested in the review..?
Quadraphonic vinyl will probably never make a comeback, with even a lot of avid collectors mourning that they don’t have the necessary equipment to play it on. But quadraphonic SACDs are everybody’s opportunity to find out what the fuss was really all about, and you know what? Its original advocates were right.
excellent new article here from Goldmine Magazine by Dave Thompson with reviews of some of the Dutton Vocalion Quad SACDs, commentary on the rebirth of Quad and a new Quad reference book; "I've Got Four Ears To Hear You" by Tamsin Darke
