Hey gang,

Just scored a KENWOOD KR-8840....Other than differences in power output, what's the difference between it and other T.O.L. Kenwood Quad receivers of that era (8340, 9040, 9340, and 9940).

I know that some of the units were only sold in Japan and some in Europe??...Also, your overall opinions of the KR-8840 are appreciated.

Thanks!!

Mike

The 9340 was TOTL for 1974; 50wpc, built in SQ, RM and CD4 - $750
The 8340 had lower power (28wpc) and the CD4 was an option via the KCD4 adapter - $620
There were two other quad receivers for '74 - the 6340 and 5340, both lower in price.

For '75, there were only two quads, the 9940 and 8840. Other than cosmetic differences, they both seem to be identical in features and specs to their predecessors, the 9340 and 8340 (although the power on the 8340 seems to have increased to 40wpc). Prices increased to $950 and $800. The two less expensive models are gone.

The same two were carried over for '76, with prices changing to $975 and $700 (strange, one up and one down!).

Can't help you on the 9040.

All of these were excellent units, although not quite in a league with the Sansui QRX series.

Happy trails,
Larry B.
