Mike Keneally (for those who do not know him) is a number of things. He's a guitarist who has toured with Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Dethklok (!). He's recorded an album of Steve Vai songs arranged for solo piano (!). He's written and recorded music for the Metropole Orchestra in Holland. And he's recorded a bunch of progressive pop masterpieces that straddle the worlds of Zappa and The Beatles very comfortably. For years, one of his best, called "Sluggo!", has been out of print (and there's a very long story behind that). But now, not only has "Sluggo!" been remixed for a new CD release, it's also coming out as a 5.1 DVD-Audio disc! Here is the pertinent facts from an e-mail Mike sent out today:
-------------------
1) Sluggo! Deluxe (1-CD/2-DVD package) $34
Contains:
* Instant download of the 2013 Stereo Mix of Sluggo! in mp3 or FLAC
* CD with 2013 Stereo Mix of Sluggo! plus 2 bonus tracks
* DVD-A with PCM 16/48 Stereo, DTS 24/48 5.1 Digital Surround, MLP 24/96 Lossless Stereo & MLP 24/96 Lossless 5.1 Surround
* DVD with over two hours of unreleased live and studio video material, the original 1997 stereo mix, more bonus audio tracks, shots of the original tracking sheets and other items
* Digipak with all original artwork plus new liner notes
----------------------
That's right - MLP Lossless 5.1! And remixed from analog multitracks.
What can I say? This is the album that in 1998 made me a Keneally fan. I played it endlessly for about a year. And at 73 minutes, it's essentially a double album, so it's good value for the money.
Preorders start November 7 at http://store.keneally.com/
I'm super excited!
