Dion DiMucci's backing vocal group parted ways with their leader in 1960, and went on to score several hits for the Sabrina(later Sabina)label, most of all the wonderful "Tell Me Why." After years in the 'pop wilderness'(as I think of it), they returned in 1972 with the revelatory and spare CIGARS, ACCAPPELLA, CANDY, originally released as Buddah :BDS 5123, which lives up to its title.

What surprised me, this morning, was how well it played though DPL II; until now, never thought of an album like this as being MC-friendly(but it is!)

For what it is, worth a listen(CD reissue: Elektra 60989-2).

ED :)
