I think Halloween is pretty much the start day now for malls, etc. Stupid, but it is all about the shopping.

Lowes has had Christmas yard decorations on sale for a month. When retailers make their profits from the next 60 days it makes sense.

I have tried to get my family to stop the insane levels of commercialism and gift giving to the extreme. My wife and I tried to give other family members gifts of time and family togetherness, but we ultimately got out voted.

Santa Claus is coming and the kis are gettin' greedy....

was it in 5.1?, I'm imagining a Scheiner or SW mix of Jingle Bells or White Christmas would be kinda palatable ;)

I hate seeing Christmas stuff in the stores in late August and September, let alone October and November. It's out of control.

Anyone else remember when all that stuff came out the day after Thanksgiving? It was a big deal. I remember my friends father had to work Thanksgiving eve getting stuff ready in his store for the next day. Ah, the past. The older one gets, the better the past sounds. (It wasn't as great in real time! :) )

People would make special trips to Downtown Chicago, just to see Marshall Field's windows at Christmas. Fortunately, Macy's has kept some vestiges of this tradition. Parents and children alike would marvel at Uncle Mistletoe, Aunt Holly and Freddy Fieldmouse. Folks wait in line to dine under the Walnut Room's huge Christmas tree in its' atrium. Imagine a 15 story store taking up a city block. They used to have another building across the street with another 8 stories.

Its all part made for profit culture we live in.

They would not do it if they made no money from it. For that we can all take some of the blame.

In our family Christmas will not start untill after my daughters birthday 16th December (Bah Humbug !!).

That of course does not stop me buying expensive box sets for myself for christmas before hand :)

I gave it up in 1989, and have never been happier. I have my reasons that are personal, the idea has been bastardized to a point that is insane. I was miserable-very unhappy-until I gave it all up. I am assaulted in stores with the same crappy music and the same shitty merry xmas from everyone. People get depressed, booze it up, those who are alone feel left out, and the best one is how wealthy people will help others unfortunate have a meal on thanksgiving and xmas.
The holiday has no mention in the bible, furthermore the first thing mentioned on news is how retailers did during the time. So, what is the point? Now I just see it as being very "wierd" and quite scary!
