Hello I just bought a Harman Kardon 8+ from an ebay seller.
It sounds super super great. It plays at perfect speed with no crosstalk
and I am really happy with how it plays my Q8's - But...
The motor has been getting hot and shutting itself off.
I pulled back the case and put a fan on it and it is better that way
but still overheats and each time I put in a new tape. I have to
give the flywheel(?) part a push around to start up. Then it plays great again for awhile.
I am hoping to keep it because it sounds so great. But I am still
within my 14 days limit to return it to the seller because of the motor.
Any ideas on fixing the motor problem?
I am not sure how hard it would be to remove it. It is easy to see
and not hidden under anything, but it still could be hard to get out.
I do have some old timers really close to me who repair electric motors
and do a great job on whatever is possible to fix, but not sure how hard
pulling the motor to take in to the repair shop might be..
Any ideas to help me decide to keep it and try to fix or send back?
THANKS!!!

O.K. - Here is an update on my HK 8+.
I took it in to the electric motor repair guys to have them
take a look at it. After talking them in to even looking at it,
one of the guys got pretty interested in it because he had
8 tracks. He really liked it and thought the motor was
really great and was perfectly quiet and moved like it should.
Then He got some lubrication in to the motor first.
Then was able to remove the motor by just loosening the
binder with the one access nut and bolt. So it is easy to get the motor
out of it. We didn't take it all the way out because of the wires.
The only negative was he felt like there were no access points in the motor
casing to take it apart for any rebuilding. So he told me to take it back home
and see how the lubricant did to help it out. And go from there....
So far it has been working great.
I don't have it back in the case yet, but It hasn't overheated at all and doesn't really even get hot.
Even after hours of playing, it just is a little warm now..
And it starts right up every time since too.
So I am hoping it is good to go now.
Thanks for the help and cleaning/lubricating suggestions and it's good to know it's a sony motor too
in case I need to track down a replacement. It doesn't look like rebuilding it is an option for this motor.

Sounds like you're in the clear! Need to track down the thread with the belt part numbers as I have an 8+ here that needs one.

Timbre4 -the belt is FBM 12.5 - I tried to post the info where I got the belts from, but it
didn't get approved through the moderator. it is understandable since I don't have many posts and could be a spammer
thanks!!
