I have been unhappy with my LG external bluray player to rip MCH and movies. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable external bluray player?
I have been using an ASUS external blu ray drive for over 3 years with no issues, but I see my model is no longer available. Here's a link to what is available from them, check out the specs, I'm sure they will all do what you need..I have been unhappy with my LG external bluray player to rip MCH and movies. You're referring to an optical drive, not a player. A player has A/V outputs. A drive allows you to mount a disc on a computer. Different beasts....external bluray player...
An external will need to use USB 3.0 or thunderbolt. USB 2.0 would have speed issues. Panasonic makes most if not all of the drives themselves. I'd probably just buy one from them. They're around $80 nowadays. I'm still using a SATA connecting internal in my Mac Pro. Guess it's about 10 years old now!I have been unhappy with my LG external bluray player to rip MCH and movies. What makes you unhappy?I have been unhappy with my LG external bluray player to rip MCH and movies. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable external bluray player?
Good choice. I would always recommend a drive that can be separately (rather than simply bus) powered, whether optical, magnetic, or solid state. You can also roll your own using an internal drive and an enclosure....AC-powered drives...
Sometimes my LG just spins the disc but the drive is not recognized by my computer.same here
What makes you unhappy?
Beat me to it. If ripping 4k UHD is something you need, you'll have to shop carefully. You might also want to make sure you get a "LibreDrive"

commiserations I just have to comment that I am in the same dreary boatI have been unhappy with my LG external bluray player to rip MCH and movies. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable external bluray player?
Same one I bought a couple years ago for my playing and ripping chores via an Intel NUC. Agree it's a little clunky but has been working fine so far.I ended up with this. https://www.asus.com/us/motherboards-components/optical-drives/external-blu-ray-drive/bw-16d1x-u/ A little clunky but works well.
I’m happy with mine, too.Same one I bought a couple years ago for my playing and ripping chores via an Intel NUC. Agree it's a little clunky but has been working fine so far.
It works... sure thats all it has to do! So IWOOT !! found it to buy thanks for the 'link )I ended up with this. https://www.asus.com/us/motherboards-components/optical-drives/external-blu-ray-drive/bw-16d1x-u/ A little clunky but works well.
I have an internal LG BD drive, but as big as my case is, and stuffed full of HDD's, there's literally no open bays. So I just run the cabling out the back and sit it on top. I also have an external Verbatim drive (rebadged Pioneer) but it's slower than smoke off molasses. No one still uses a desktop with an internal drive?
Yes, that's what I settled on after getting a smaller one that wouldn't work with Windows 11.I ended up with this. https://www.asus.com/us/motherboards-components/optical-drives/external-blu-ray-drive/bw-16d1x-u/ A little clunky but works well.
