Any comments on the akai AS960?

Someone is selling an akai AS960 locally (Manila).

Is anyone familiar with this unit?
How does it rank in the AKAI totem pole of quads?

Does it compare well with other brands ?

I have a Sansui QRX9001 set up now.

Is that the "big monster Akai"? I'm not familiar with it, but I'm sure someone here has one. Hopefully they will stop by.

The AS960 is not the "Monster" Akai. The AS980 is.

I imagine the 960 has the same amps as the 980 and the SQ/QS demods are OK. You will certainly get better results with QS from your Sansui. The CD-4 does a nice job, but again, probably no better than your Sansui.

As Q-eight states, I can't imagine why the bass and treble control were not designed to control the rears, doesn't make any sense.

I do use my Akai AS980 for my main 4.0 Amp and love the results.

Meh. If I were you, I would wait for an Akai 980 if you really want an Akai. Otherwise, I think you should stick with your Sansui.

By the way, how much is the guy selling the 960 for?
