In 1977 Gentle Giant recorded their ninth studio album "The Missing Piece." It was a time of change. Punk, disco and rap were altering the musical landscape and even this well-established progressive rock band were willing to explore new directions. Side one saw them experimenting with quirky pop ("Two Weeks In Spain"), a grandiose power ballad ("I'm Turning Around"), syncopated funk ("Who Do You Think You Are?") and even the punky aggression of "Betcha Thought We Couldn't Do It" Normal service was resumed on side two with some of their most sublime and intricate progressive stylings to date. It remains a polarizing effort amongst fans to this day, some bemused by its diversity, others enchanted by its versatility and sense of humor. The Missing Piece certainly proves that Gentle Giant could play anything they set their minds to. It was the last Gentle Giant album to chart in the USA. Award winning producer and musician Steven Wilson continues his association with the band, remixing the album in Dolby Atmos, Stereo and 5. 1 surround sound. In addition the digipak CD/Blu-ray set also contains an instrumental mix, the original 1977 stereo mix and videos for each track.

Pre-Ordered!
I bought the LP back then on the day of release, but never purchased any digital version. I had mixed feelings about it then, but am still looking forward to this as I am sure I'll be surprised with one of those "how did I forget this great one?" moments!

Awesome news, I’m not going to be pre-ordering however due what happened last year with my Amazon Interview order.

It seems unlikely, but I’d love a SW 5.1 of “Civilian”. Anyone know if the multitracks still exist?

Yes I’m aware of the reissue, but of course it’s just a CD (was it even remastered?)

Standalone of the debut would be welcome of course.
I posted this back on 12-29-22. Maybe this will give you hope...
Just read the digest of this video on Michael's Record Collection website dated 5-26-22. I came across this in the article, "Sony owned the rights to Civilian and the band had to get permission to do the reissue. While it hasn’t gotten Wilson’s 5.1 and Dolby Atmos treatment yet, Derek Shulman indicated that it could happen in the future."

Yes; they also need to find the multitracks for GG's Acquiring The Taste. Then again, if The Beatles could use "A.I." to remix the Red & Blue Albums into 5.1 & Atmos, GG should consider using it as well.
To my knowledge, Peter Jackson's "MAL" de-mixing technology has only been used on three album remix projects thus far: The Beatles' Revolver, the Red & Blue Albums, and The Band's Music From Big Pink. For those projects, it's worth noting that the software was being applied to individual channels of a three or four-track multitrack. Assuming Alucard and/or Steven Wilson even have access to this technology, it may not work as well with a finalized two-track stereo master.

That said, I wonder if they'd be open to doing a dedicated CD/Blu-Ray set of Three Friends? Only two tracks ("Prologue" and "Working All Day") would need to be upmixed to complete the album sequence. I'd be all in if Steven did new Atmos mixes of the four songs that were previously remixed in stereo & 5.1 for Three Piece Suite. "Peel The Paint" would be wild in Atmos.

I still need to catch up and order Interview from the US so that it's in the right size 'Alucard' packaging to match the others and temper my OCD! I may have to wait and see if this one is the same and order them both. I really don't understand why they changed the UK version, but good news another album is coming. I would also vote for a stand alone of the debut too...

I'm also hoping for a standalone release of the Debut (and with Steven Wilson at the helm, you can count on a Atmos Upgrade)!

If I'm not mistaken, (because I didn't buy it) Gentle Giant - 1st in 5.1 was the cherry on top for the Unburied Treasure box? So there is a 5.1 master already. Would be interesting if it got the Atmos treatment before a commercial release; thus giving some fans a justification for shelling out for it again.

Sure wish In A Glass House was mentioned as a possibility someday. If it was somewhere, I surely missed it.

You're not mistaken Tim
