GM-DX975 pioneer 5 channel amplifier

Im wondering if these 5 channel amplifiers will play in 5.1 surround. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Does 5 channel equal 5.1?

It will power the 5 main channels. The .1 is for the subwoofer. The vast majority of subs are self powered and you feed them a line level signal.

So 5.0 does not equal 5.1, but a 5 ch amp + powered sub does =.5.1

In the case of the GM- DX975, it is a car audio amp. It only has the front two stereo channels A and rear two channels B, plus a sub channel. You cannot get 5.1 surround out of her...2 channel only plus sub.
