I just bought this CD-4 decoder on EBay for my use up here in snowy Illinois.

What am I going to need to get this unit up and running? I already have the turntable with the low cap. cables and an audio technica at14sa cartridge and obviously, a quad receiver.

Should I try to find a calibration record for this unit, or can it be calibrated using a CD-4 record?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

MTGC (Michael)

Hi Michael,

If I were you, I wouldn't be able to wait for a calibration record. I would have the demodulator hooked up faster than you can say LF, RF, LB, and RB. :D

I fact, I did just that when I got my first demodulator about 7 months ago. :sun

Hook it up and have fun. You can play with the controls all you like and this will be a good way to get used to what they do.

Although I still use a calibration disc to adjust the separation, it really is possible to do it without just by listening to the music and how well it surrounds you and hearing discrete sounds from all four speakers.

You'll see what I mean. ;)

Hi Michael:

The Quadfather has done quite a few write-ups regarding CD-4 adjsutment. I think I remember reading one more detailed than the two I linked below, but I could not find it. Although, these two should be helpful. I am going through the exact same thing you are right now, and it is quite fun....the CD-4 test record is a trip too.

Have fun :D
