I remember seeing then on the Old Grey Whistle Test (BBC2 70s music programme), crazy band.

Yes....I saw the New York Dolls at the Whiskey in Los Angeles when they were starting out .Great show.
Trash you dont pick it up.......

I saw them at the Minnesota State Fair in the "Teen Center" in 1974. Some in the crowd were giving the band a hard time because they were no longer dressing like "girls" and Johansen told them to go home and polish their father's tractor.

Of course, Johansen was relying on the stereotype of midwesterners all being farmers for that joke when he was in a big city but we still laughed at it.

I remember buying Too Much Too Soon just because of the cover, having never heard of The New York Dolls. Loved the album then, and recently found it on CD. And I still love it!

Also, I think "Subway train", Stranded in the Jungle", and "Don't Start Me Talking" are three great pop songs. The bass line in their version of "Stranded..." is really good where he goes down scale instead of just repeating the first few bars.
