Go Jets!

NHL

Pretty simple: The more 5-on-4 play, the better New York's shot at dethroning the reigning Prince of Wales Trophy winners.

Our pick: Panthers in 7.

My pick: Rangers in 6

Two years ago the Rangers went up 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals over Tampa Bay and then proceeded to lose four in a row. Tampa Bay burned themselves out climbing back from the 2-0 deficit against the Rangers and subsequently lost in the finals. This will be a difficult trek for all four remaining teams. Regular season point totals and points since Jan1:

Rangers: 114 (points since Jan 1 = 63)
Stars: 113 (points since Jan 1 = 65)
Panthers: 110 (points since Jan 1 =64)
Oilers: 104 (points since Jan 1 = 67)

Not a heck of a lot of separation between the teams especially since the Oilers have been playing (marginally) the best since Jan 1.

The Rangers certainly had their share of chances last night but came up empty. The difference between this series and the Canes series is that the Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky doesn't suck like the Canes goalie Freddie Andersen. Bobrovsky stopped everything and his positional play was excellent.

Rangers almost as good as the Leafs, almost.

Go Oilers!
