As I observed her through the entire show I kept wondering what the advantage of watching the show on the screen might possibly be. From my perspective (about 6 feet behind her), the image on the screen seemed smaller than my view of the stage. I concluded that from her perspective it must have provided a magnified image, though I'll bet her arm started getting fatigued holding it up for so long. Regardless, it was annoying having all those lit screens seemingly everywhere in my line of sight. Back in my younger days you brought a lighter to a show to light your doobs and then to hold up in anticipation of the encore. Cant light up with a smartphone, though they do work well for the encore thing.:smokin
Probably an app for that... ;)

Staying on the subject of smart phones in concerts for a minute, I have to say I'm not a fan. The sea of phones at the recent Gilmour concert I saw was distracting to say the least. One young woman in front of me seemed to like to use it as a substitute for binoculars. Apparently she preferred to watch the image on her phone rather than take in the true live experience. As a society, I think we've taken the whole mobile phone thing a little too far. And don't even get me started on people using them in movie theatres....
They are video taping the show so they can watch the show later on.

Could be. The way that image was bouncing around, and with all her zooming in and out, how watchable can that video actually be? And the amount of distraction it must have caused her with respect to actually watching the event live just doesn't seem worth it. I guess I never even realized a phone could even hold 3-1/2 hrs of video like that.

I didn't say they were going to enjoy watching it. And yes phones can record a lot more video than that. There are 200 gig mini SD cards available for under $80.

I saw Anderson on the two tours he did previous to this one... TAAB2 and Homo Erraticus. Yes the voice is pretty well shot. He tends to speak lyrics instead of sing them now. He had a singer in the band doing much of the singing for him (the name escapes me). He can still play guitar and flute though. And you are spot on with your words regarding Florian Ophale IMHO.

I think the photo/heckle policy may be more a policy of the venue rather than the band. I saw no such stern postings when I took in his shows, although I think there was an announcement prohibiting flash photography at the start.

You're referring to Ryan O'Donnell, and yes, he was a big part of last night's show, although this time it was just through his singing on the video screen. He wasn't there in person.
And as for the use of smart phones during the concert, as long as it's not intruding on my view, then I don't care. What does bother me some times is when things go the other way as they do at pretty much every concert I have been to at the Ryman. Some times I haven't even noticed that people have their phones up until I see an usher run down the isle to chastise them. I noticed that so much last night, and it really bothered and distracted me. I understand that they were trying to do their job, but what they don't understand is that I was bothered by that more than I was by the people that were using their phones to begin with!

it's basically impossible to watch a concert nowadays with all the numbskulls and their "dumbphones"...you can't see anything but a sea of those horrible devices....
And I am soooo very happy when the ushers tell them to cut it out....
In the Julieta Venegas gig , I was up front (she was almost spitting on me), I took some photos but that was it...I quickly put my phone away...

MAIDEN. TOMORROW. \m/

How was the show? You got a sore neck from too much headbanging? :D

I have highly-developed head-banging muscles! It was a good show. I felt it was too short, but maybe consideration needs to be given for Bruce, having just had cancer surgery.
I am soooo glad that I go to see some rock/metal heroes do their thing. It was a lot of fun, both the show and the road trip with some good buddies.

Gotta love the Arcada!! Middle name acts at a more than reasonable price and decent sound. No attitude either. Probably my favorite place to see a show now.

Saw Kansas last night with their new lead singer Ronnie Platt (a graduate from my class at Proviso West HS, Hillside, IL) at North Central College in Naperville IL. I was absolutely amazed at how great they sound after all these years. Ronnie can hit the high notes and sounds a great deal like Steve Walsh. If they are on your town I would recommend the show.

Next up on May 7th is the Alan Parsons Project at the Arcada in St Charles, IL.

May 12th Todd Rundgren at the Arcada.

July 3rd the wife and I will be taking a trip back in time to see Rick Springfield (our 3rd or 4th time) with Loverboy and The Romantics at the Grand Victoria Festival Park in Elgin IL.

ROCK BAND KANSAS TO LAUNCH TOUR IN CELEBRATION OF 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF BREAKTHROUGH ALBUM ‘LEFTOVERTURE’
SEXTUPLE PLATINUM ALBUM TO BE PERFORMED IN ITS ENTIRETY
America’s preeminent progressive rock band KANSAS will be touring select cities this fall celebrating the 40th Anniversary of their breakthrough album ‘Leftoverture.’ To celebrate, for the first time in history, the band will be performing the album in its entirety. The tour will showcase two hours of classic KANSAS music including hit songs, deep cuts, and new songs from their soon to be released album, ‘The Prelude Implicit.”
In 1976, KANSAS released the album ‘Leftoverture.’ Containing the smash hit, and million-selling single “Carry On Wayward Son,” along with fan favorites such as “The Wall,” “Miracles Out Of Nowhere,” and “What’s On My Mind,” ‘Leftoverture,’ became the band’s breakthrough album. The album peaked at #5 on Billboard’s Album charts and reached sextuple-platinum status for more than 6 million copies sold.
“These definitely will not be your typical KANSAS concerts of the past few years,” commented original KANSAS guitarist Richard Williams. “This is incredibly exciting for the entire band, and hopefully our fans. It’s something we’ve never done before, play an album in its entirety, as part of a set. ‘Leftoverture’ was our breakthrough, and it’s special that we are getting to celebrate it 40 years later. We’ve never even played “Questions of My Childhood” live before. I can’t wait!”
The tour will also debut performances of songs from the band’s latest studio release ‘The Prelude Implicit.’ The new album, scheduled for release in September 2016 is the band’s 15th studio album and first new album since 2000.
KANSAS Lead Vocalist Ronnie Platt added, “This is going to be really special for both the band and our fans. It has been really wild recording ‘The Prelude Implicit.’ We are anxious to perform some of the songs for live audiences. To be able to do that while also be performing ‘Leftoverture’ in its entirety, and more; this is going to be a blast! Who knows, we may even have some more twists added in!”
Tickets & KANSAS VIP Packages for most dates go on sale to the general public Friday, April 22, 2016. More ticket information can be found at www.kansasband.com.

Hee! Off topic....I wish SW would do a multi-channel of Leftoverture. Now that would be amazing, I'm sure.

That would be amazing, but I'm honestly not sure if SW is really a fan of Kansas or not. If he is, it's a no-brainer to have him do a surround mix of "Leftoverture". If he isn't, that's one I would love to mix in surround… ;)

I'll call them this afternoon, I'm sure we can get this done. OK, I won't call them...but that would be cool as well.

Strawbs at Rosfest tonight! Electric! Playing the Hero and Heroine album!

Friday, May 6th: Crystal Gayle at Arcada Theater, St. Charles, IL. She was in great voice and looked very good for 65. Her hair still nearly reaches the floor! She did a wonderful version of Gordon Lightfoot's Ribbon of Darkness, a song she did very early on. I'm a huge Lightfoot fan, having seen/heard him 5-6 times live.

Looking forward to enjoying Tower of Power at the Arcada in July.
