Unusual Item On eBay. Rare?

Came across this while surfing eBay the other day. Have never seen anyting like this before and was not aware that such an item existed. I thought this was kinda cool if it actually worked. Does anyone know how common or rare this is. Not sure about the price the guy is asking but them again I'm not versed in the value of older audio gear.

I saw one of those in a used record store a couple months ago. In the box, string/tie still intact, looked just like that. I think they wanted $75 which I thought was way too much. I think it might only work with certain model(s). The store that had it does ebay sales so if I don't see it there next time I'll suspect that it was bought by a flipper.

I thought it was a neat idea.
