Rush-Hemispheres and after

How far after!? I honestly like all Rush albums, but think some filler arises around Hold Your Fire. IMO, Rush albums are strongest when constrained to LP length.
Going back before Hemi, with all the layering and the buried narratives on the stereo mixes, I'd love to hear Caress of Steel in hi-res surround.
You get Rush at their lightest, "Panacea" and at their heaviest, "In the Tower." Very Zepellinesque with some prog too. A very cool, but weird record.

My greats that remained mostly unknown:
Klaatu - 3:47 EST, Hope, Sir Army Suit
Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond, Sufficiently Breathless, Dawn Explosion
Lake - Lake, Lake Vol 2, Paradise Island, Ouch!
Nektar - A Tab In The Ocean, Sounds Like This, Down To Earth, Recycled, Magic Is Child
Triumvirat - Mediterranean Tales (Across the Water), Illusions on a Double Dimple, Spartacus, Old Loves Die Hard, Pompeii
White Witch - White Witch, A Spiritual Greeting

City Boy - City Boy, Dinner At The Ritz, Young Men Gone West, Book Early, The Day The Earth Caught Fire
Be Bop Deluxe - Axe Victim, Futurama, Sunburst Finish, Modern Music, Live! In The Air Age, Drastic Plastic
Bill Nelson / Bill Nelson's Red Noise - Sound-On-Sound
Flash - In the Can, Flash, Out Of Our Hands
Tommy Bolin - Teaser, Private Eyes

Ambrosia - Ambrosia, Somewhere I've Never Travelled, Life Beyond L.A.

Southern Rock is way under represented in surround so:
The Allman Brothers Band - The Allman Brothers Band, Brothers And Sisters, Win, Lose or Draw, Enlightened Rogues, Reach For The Sky, Seven Turns, Shades Of Two Worlds,
Where It All Begins, Hittin' The Note
The Marshall Tucker Band - The Marshall Tucker Band, A New Life, Where We All Belong, Searchin' For A Rainbow, Long Hard Ride, Carolina Dreams, Together Forever, Running Like The Wind, Tenth
Molly Hatchet - Molly Hatchet, Flirtin' With Disaster, Beatin' The Odds
The Outlaws - Outlaws, Lady In Waiting, Hurry Sundown, Ghost Riders
Atlanta Rhythm Section - Third Annual Pipe Dream, Dog Days, A Rock And Roll Alternative, Red Tape, Champagn Jam,

.38 Special - Rockin' Into The Night, Wild-eyed Southern Boys, Special Forces, Tour de Force
Elvin Bishop - Let Flow, Juke Joint Jump, Struttin' My Stuff, Hometown Boy Makes Good, Raisin' Hell
Lynyrd Skynyrd - (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd), Second Helping, Nuthin Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, One More For The Road, Street Suvivors
Charlie Daniels - Fire On the Mountain, Nightrider, High Lonesome, Saddle Tramp, Midnight Wind, Whiskey, Million Mile Reflections, Full Moon

All and any:
Jimi Hendrixs
Beatles Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
Bad Company
Alice Cooper
Black Sabbath
Deep Purple
Blue Öyster Cult
David Bowie
Brand X
and on and on and....

I consider myself most fortunate that, being a lifelong fan of progressive, many of my "most wanted" mixes have already been done. :)

However, top of my "still to do" list would have to be "Green" by Steve Hillage. Such a missed opportunity not including any surround at all in the recent re-issue of his back catalogue. :(

My first choice would be Mr. Bungle, but I'd love to have some Faith No More in surround.

Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Conway Twitty:

Green is a great choice! Any of the Gong Teapot Trilogy would be delicious too!

I may have missed it, but does anyone yearn for some Supertramp? Crime would be wonderful.

Green is a great choice! Any of the Gong Teapot Trilogy would be delicious too!

Fingers crossed for Gong. Someone from the Gong appreciation society has posted a couple of messages on their website in the last couple of months, regarding upcoming official (band endorsed) reissues of the Trilogy:

https://www.planetgong.co.uk/outland/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1285

What to expect in 2018?

With continuing fair winds most probably this:-

A 4LP box-set with booklet
A 3CD/1DVD ear-book set.
A 2CD set with a limited single LP highlights version
A 15 CD Boxset with book and possibly stuff...

...and then 2019 is Gong's 50th anniversary...

If I said more I would have to kill you and then it wouldn't all get done.

And another, earlier this week:

We have HHH&G (Howlett, Hillage, Heyworth and Greene) working on it - right now.

Mike Howlett (bass) and Steve Hillage (guitar) were of course in Gong. Simon Heyworth was Gong (and Mike Oldfield's) engineer, and was I think responsible for the Anthony Phillips surround mixes, and recent King Crimson reissues.

So if the DVD in the ear-book set includes Simon Heyworth surround mixes, then life would be wonderful

My list could be a mile long!

A few mentioned already:
Yes - Going for the One
Pink Floyd - Animals

And now those that come into my head at this moment:
He Said - Take Care
The Stranglers - The Raven, Feline, B&W
Roxy Music - FYP, Stranded, Siren, Viva (expanded version please)
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love, Sensual World
Barry Adamson - Soul Murder, or maybe I Will Set You Free
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts, Still Life
The Cure - Disintegration, Bloodflowers, Faith, Pornography
Cocteau Twins
Hawkwind
Slowdive
(any and all!)

The other day I was listening to My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" and wondered what a proper surround mix could do with the blurred wall of sound of this classic and other Dream Pop/Shoegazing albums. It could be pretty cool with all the vocals and instruments morphing in & out... around the room.
