Aren't Sony and Philips Blu-Ray advocates ?
Would that mean DVD-A would play on Sony and Philips Equipment ?

Excuse my technical ignorance on these matters

They've selected MLP 2 Channel (not Multichannel)

Brian,
I think that may refer to the 'downmix' which is available with MLP.
HD-DVD will probably specify up to 8 channels of 192khz. Bluray hasn't been finalised yet.

Manus

No Brian, that's a player spec.

The two-channel player spec can be met by either of (A) Including Downmix coefficients within the multi-channel stream (B) A seperate datastream which contains a dedicated two-channel mix.

Don't confuse the player specs (where stereo is a minimum requirement) with the media specs.

The intent was to make the implementation of a stereo only player easy.

Cheers,
