When the truth first came out, some years ago, it ruined my favorite music joke, which was: If Cass had only shred her ham sandwich with Karen Carpenter, they would both be alive today. I know, dark. Anyways, she is buried very close to my parents. I've visited her grave a few times. Such a tremendous loss to music and humanity.

Saw an interview with Owen Elliot (-Kugell), the little girl in the picture, a couple weeks ago. Cass' Daughter says the ham sandwich was a story Cass' manager concocted.

Yes, the article mentions that Cass's manager Allen Carr concocted the story to hide the true cause of death (Heart attack caused by drug abuse). It was supposed to preserve the wholesome image but was a very misguided decision.
