IIRC, Sheffield Lab (the pioneer in Direct Cut LPs) never commented
on the idea of using an SQ or QS encoder for their Direct Cut LPs.
Since Matrix Quad and Direct Cut LPs existed in the same time frame
(early to late 1970s), I'm a little surprised that no one tried making
a Quad Direct Cut LP (one goal for CD-4 was real time master disc
cutting, which would make possible Direct Cut Discrete Quadraphonic
LPs/45s).
