I decided to insert this into my computer's CD player rather than risking damage to my real CD player. There was some mention of these discs shattering, so wanted to test it in a crummy cheap CD player first. One interesting thing I saw was Windows Media Player lists all the songs on the CD. Where do these song listings come from? Are they obtained from the CD directly, or does the catalog number match up to the song listings in a database? Even old CDs (made in 1983) have these song listings. I found a CD single which was missing the song listings though.

That depends if the disc has the CD-TEXT feature, which embeds the title, artist, and song titles on the disc for retrieval by "CD-TEXT" capable players, or if your player program connected to the internet and identified the disc by it's ID number.

It must be the cd text feature then since I wasn't
connected to the internet. Strange how this feature
has been used starting on the very first CDs and I
have never seen a CD player that displays this info (of
course that doesn't mean there aren't any.. could be I suppose).
