Well, it's not exactly multichannel (Yet!), but I know a lot of you went the audiophile route when quad dried up. The Mobile Fidelity LPs were great, but alas only 2 channel. For those of us who segued into gold CDs, we know that the leading engineer for the DCC Gold Discs was a person named Steve Hoffman.

I have found that Steve has his own forum board (like this one), and he actually stops by and comments most every day. He also will post on his upcoming work on multichannel discs, of which he is working on now.

any switch will do the job as long as it doesn't contain filters, coupling capacitors, or terminating resistors. Check for a DC path through the switch. I use an A-B switch for cable TV to switch AC3 and DTS.
