As if things weren't screwed up enough already. Here is a list of announced titles and a little information about the HD VMD launch. Why any company would think a third format to fight against the two floundering formats makes any sense is difficult to grasp. Confusion will reign supreme with three formats fighting for the minuscule market that be interested in getting involved now.

Hard to believe isn't it?

I am going to guess many purchasers of HD VMD players will be buying one believing it is a player for the new discs they have seen advertised. In a couple of months, it will be funny to read the comments at Amazon.com. Reading comments on "Planet Earth" HD DVD it was clear that many purchased that box set believing it would play in their DVD players. This format will completely baffle the average Amazon.com customer. It is hard to imagine the next generation format war being any more screwed up than this.

$189 isn't much of a bargain considering there seems to be no available content to play on it.

I believe this site lists about 50 titles for the US market, although nothing is really very clear at this point to me, except that this format has an incredibly slim chance to amount to anything. Look at the right side and use the arrow to scroll down for the listed titles:

Whether or not there is even one title you might want is another matter.

You know what would be funny - or at least fun to watch unfold? It has been mentioned before the influence that the porn industry has... what if they go VMD? I guess it would be the geek version of a monster truck rally. Oh, the carnage :D

I am going to pay attention to releases on this format. I am interested in obscure films, older films, B films and if those titles show up, I am in. There is no chance those films are going to show up often on the two more popular HD disc formats. I am not finding much of interest at all on HD DVD and things aren't a whole lot better with Blu-ray. I like mainstream big budget films some, but those films aren't really my main interest.

GFG. Hopefully this will go away quickly, like the DCC (not the gold disc, the tape format)

Both of those went bye bye, the label and the format, didn't they? DCC is one of the few formats I didn't buy. I do still own an RDAT deck, I was sure it was the better of the two formats. A lot of good that did me.
